About Dave Williams:

Dave Williams, Yachtmaster

Born in Swansea 1942

Started boating in my late teens, fishing off a friends fathers boat in Mumbles

Crewed at weekends on the first fishing charter boat out of Swansea. Skippered by Hans Witter, who lobster potted during the week, chartered weekends

My first boat, an 8 foot dinghy with a 2 hp outboard engine

Graduated onto a 16 foot cathedral hulled motorboat, with a 20 hp outboard engine and small cuddy which provided a little shelter from the elements

Finally in 1979, bought my present boat, a 37 foot Prout Snowgoose catamaran, as bare hulls, and fitted it out. Launched in Swansea June 1981

Went on practical sailing courses both in the Bristol Channel, Solent and Falmouth

Passed the RYA/DOT Yachtmaster practical exam at Falmouth in June 1994. This is a 12-hour exam, on board with an examiner, and your own crew. We picked the examiner up at midday, and the exam finished at midnight

Qualified as a Shorebased Instructor later in 1994, and been teaching the RYA Dayskipper and Yachtmaster Theory Courses at Swansea College and Llansteffan Boat Club, since 1994. Having taught over 250 students during this time

Sailed extensively in the Bristol Channel, the Isles of Scilly, Falmouth area, Southern Ireland and the Channel Islands aboard my catamaran Catalyst

Now having retired as a Building site agent, I have more time to teach the RYA Courses and carry out Yacht deliveries
